In a statement, a Netflix spokesperson<\/a> said:\u00a0\u201cNetflix will not be involved with any further production of\u00a0House of Cards\u00a0that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC [House of Cards production company, Media Rights Capital] during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film\u00a0Gore<\/a>, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear what that means for the sixth season of House of Cards<\/a>. The process of production had been underway at the time the allegation was made against Spacey. It\u2019s a known fact that how central Spacey\u2019s character, Congressman Frank Underwood, is to the show, it\u2019s going to be a big deal. The producers are considering killing off Underwood or possibly moving to\u00a0spin-off shows<\/a>\u00a0that focus on other characters.<\/p>\n

Netflix and Spacey encounter<\/h2>\n

Netflix severing ties with Spacey follows an account by\u00a0actor Anthony Rapp. He had alleged that the older actor made a sexual advance towards him when Rapp was only 14 and Spacey was 26. Spacey\u2019s response to the allegation has been to say he does not \u201cremember the encounter\u201d, and also to say that: \u201cIf I did behave the way he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior<\/strong>.<\/em>\u201d Also, there are reports that eight current or former “House of Cards” workers claim that Spacey<\/a> made the production a “toxic” workplace. One ex-employee alleges the actor sexually assaulted him.<\/p>\n

The 58-year-old Spacey was nominated for the Best Drama Actor<\/a> at Emmy Awards during each of the show’s first five seasons. He played a ruthless politician who ascends to the presidency of the United States. Co-star Robin Wright is also a central player on the show, and it could conceivably continue with a focus on her.\u00a0 Netflix says it also will refuse to release the film “Gore,” in which Spacey stars as the writer Gore Vidal and also acts as producer.<\/p>\n

Spacey has not been arrested or charged with any crime. \u00a0Family Guy episode<\/a> from 2005 hinted at rumors about Kevin Spacey. British police is investigating the sexual assault allegation against Kevin Spacey<\/a>. London police is reportedly investigating Spacey for a 2008 sexual assault.\u00a0The story spurred several others to come forward with similar allegations about Spacey.<\/p>\n

Police did not identify Spacey by his name but said the department’s\u00a0sexual offenses unit is investigating the reported assault after it was referred to police earlier this week. Spacey is the latest high profile Hollywood figure to lose work and standing in a wave that began when dozens of sexual harassment allegations were reported last month against film mogul Harvey Weinstein.<\/p>\n
