Declared as a controlled holiday by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Against Child Labour Day was first celebrated in the year 2002. Today, India accounts for as many as 90 lacs approx. (9 million)\u00a0 of the world&#8217;s child <\/em>labor<em> population.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rtiwala.com\/team\/#.WyCs44ozbIU\">RTIwala Trending:<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0<em>If children are the future, child <\/em>labor<em>\u00a0is the darkness that follows. <\/em>At a time when the world is advancing in every possible way, the hard fact lies in its utter inability to put an end to it altogether. However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/rtiwala.com\/international-labour-day-2018\/#.WyDIy4ozbIU\">good news<\/a> is that there&#8217;s a gradual decline in the statistics around the world against child labor. The need to stop child labor and provide children with the prerequisite for a safe environment and a secure future had been globally recognized, but there&#8217;s a long way to go ahead of us. In countries on the lower side of development, <a href=\"https:\/\/cc.rti.link\/azd\">1 in every four children<\/a> is engaged in child labor. This alone means the path to a better economy and society are dimmed with lack of education and growth for its children.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;There can be no keener revelation of a society&#8217;s soul than the way in which it treats its children.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"author\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2014 Nelson Mandela<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In India, there has been a no. of reforms in the laws to bring <a href=\"https:\/\/rtiwala.com\/international-labour-day-2018\/#.WyDIy4ozbIU\">child <\/a>labor\u00a0down, but a lot remains to be implemented.\u00a0 Today, as we mark the 16 years of celebrating the World Against Child Labour Day, let&#8217;s take a look at the many facets of child labor in India and the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Also Read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rtiwala.com\/international-labour-day-2018\/#.WyDIy4ozbIU\">The beckoning of International Labour Day, 2018<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Child Labour Statistics:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><em>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/UNICEF\">UNICEF Data<\/a>, 2017, more than <strong style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\">150 million<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\"> children are caught in child <\/span><\/em>labor<em><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\">\u00a0across the world. What&#8217;s more disturbing is that <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\">73 million<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\"> of these children are into hazardous jobs.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Apparently, this forms to there are 45 million\u00a0boys and 28 million girls working under hazardous conditions across the world.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>In India, 1 out of every 11 children is a child <\/em>laborer<em>, reports ActionAid India.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>According to the United Nations, in the total workforce of 541 million young workers includes 37 million children work hazardous child <\/em>labor<em>. The 541 million young workers are aged between 15-24 years old.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3008\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3008\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rtiwala.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Child-Labour.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3008\" src=\"https:\/\/rtiwala.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Child-Labour.jpg\" alt=\"World Against Child Labour Day 2018\" width=\"1200\" height=\"798\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3008\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Image Source: Wikimedia Commons)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Daily Plight of Child Labour in India<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most of the child laborers\u00a0put in a\u00a0 massive <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/UNICEF\">21 hours per day<\/a> at work, which is more than enough to lead to a steady deterioration in their physical and mental health. In India, almost 10% of the total population facing child labor, work in family enterprises. However, the law restricts engaging children below 14 years of age to be engaged in such enterprises. The violation of these terms by an employer can\u00a0lead to a jail term or even closure of his\/her business. And a majority of them belong to the African and South-Asian regions. Given that these states have shown potential growth over the years, it is surprising to see them still fall flat on the issue of child labor.\u00a0 Astonishingly, one of the biggest banes created by child labor is the massive no. of children being trafficked for some or the other purpose across the world. There are approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/rtiwala.com\/a-s-pandit-ies\/#.WyDOkIozbIU\"><strong>1.5 million<\/strong> children<\/a> being trafficked around the world.
