We all know that whenever the date 15th August or 26 January comes near, all our media and politicians started hovering around some famous Freedom Fighters and invite there known dependents. And, then\u00a0they forget them till the next national holidays. The present number of Samman holders are quite less which is mere <strong>37,356<\/strong> (March 2017) and out of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">23,127 are the spouses\u00a0(mostly widows)<\/span>\u00a0and <em>1572<\/em> are Number of <em>dependent daughters Pensioners<\/em> and remaining <strong>12,657 are Living Legends<\/strong> means the Freedom Fighter themselves. How <em>unfortunate<\/em> we are because of our Print and Electronic media that we don&#8217;t even know the face and name of 1\/10th of them! <sup>( Please don&#8217;t call it Pension, refer our last post)<\/sup><\/p><blockquote><p>Another reason for a low number of Freedom Fighter is <strong>their high self-esteem<\/strong> as my great maternal grandfather who was a famous Freedom Fighter and has\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not accepted<\/em><\/span> the offer of yojana (in the 80&#8217;s) and all perks. He worked with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and donated huge land during Budhan Movement to landless labors.<\/p><\/blockquote><h3>\u00a0Which states have the\u00a0highest number of SSS Awardees &amp; Living freedom fighters?<\/h3><p>In the year 2016 (31.12.2016)\u00a0State-wise break-up of the freedom fighters \/ their dependents who have <strong>been sanctioned Samman<\/strong> Yojana was in the form of 29 States + 7 UTs + Indian National Army and the 5 states with highest Freedom Fighters and their dependents are as follow:<\/p><table class=\" aligncenter\" style=\"width: 680px;\"><tbody><tr><td style=\"width: 163px;\">S. In addition, the freedom fighter invitees were felicitated with a shawl and a small gift. 101 freedom fighters from various parts of<br \/>the country attended this function and interacted with the President.<\/p><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">You should know: The\u00a0Cripps Mission\u00a0had failed, and on 8 August 1942, Gandhi made a call to\u00a0Do or Die\u00a0in his\u00a0Quit India speech\u00a0delivered in Bombay at the\u00a0Gowalia Tank Maidan. The\u00a0All-India Congress Committee\u00a0launched a mass protest demanding what Gandhi called &#8220;An Orderly British Withdrawal&#8221; from India.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/help.rti.link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">There are no guidelines as such<\/a> but every year letters are sent to the States\/UTs every year seeking nominations\/names of freedom fighters for felicitation in the \u2018At Home\u2019 function organized by the President\u2019s Secretariat on 9th August every year. Name of only those freedom fighters is sought who are in receipt of central freedom fighter Yojana under Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana.
