RTIwala Explains: The Supreme Court has recently finalized the politically sensitive case of Ram Janambhoomi and Babri Masjid as a pure land dispute and has also refused to hear it on a daily basis. The court has announced to commence the next hearing on coming March 14.
What is the actual story of the Ayodhya Dispute?
Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram has been for a few years have become a matter of dispute as a piece of land for our communities. The Ram Janambhoomi also shares the space with Babri Masjid and because of this, it has always become of the sensitive subject between two Hindu and Muslims as always. The Supreme court has made its verdict clear this time that this case is going to behave like a normal land dispute case and that there shall be no other entertainments to be made to it.

The court headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S Abdul Nazeer also refused to hear for the appeal on a daily basis, stating that “over 700 poor litigants are waiting for justice, and they have to hear them”. The court after listening for an hour-long hearing clarified that it was first inclined to hear those who were parties to the dispute in the Allahabad High Court.
The special bench headed by Dipak Misra had listened to the verdicts of the Lucknow bench of the 2010 Allahabad High Court. In 2010, there was a 2:1 majority ruling and the court had ordered that the disputed land be partitioned equally in 2010 among three parties — the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara, and Ram Lalla.
The special bench of the apex court is seized of total 14 appeals filed against the high court judgment delivered in four civil suits. The Supreme Court has also asked the parties before Allahabad High Court in the dispute to file in two weeks English translation of documents exhibited by them.
Will there be an end ever of Ram Janambhoomi?
The whole of the storyline started a way long back in 1885 when the first suit regarding the structure was filed. It was when the Faizabad Deputy Commissioner refused to let Mahant Raghubar Das build a temple on land adjoining the mosque. Das had then filed a case against the Secretary State of India, in Faizabad, seeking permission to build a temple on the outer courtyard of the Babri Masjid. And since then, the legal battle has gone on for over a century.

We believe in the right justification by the Supreme Court and should respect the court’s judgment for betterment. Such cases had only gained popularity to the named politicians, the saints of the different communities, and the government ruling all over it since decades. They have led the country sometimes in a state of trouble that affects the normal life of a citizen. At the same time, an issue of such high levels of sensitivity might lead to complete chaos to the law & order across the country. We have seen that time and again.
Since it is one of the very crucial cases in terms of secularism in the country, we hope the Honorable Supreme Court will come up with ways too draw the curtains to the matter. And this time, for good.
