RTIwala Trending Late Ram Mukherjee: Veteran filmmaker-screenwriter Ram Mukherjee, the father of Bollywood star Rani Mukherjee, passed away on Sunday. He was 84. According to sources, Ram was not keeping well for some time. Sharing the news of her husband’s demise, Krishna Mukherjee said, “His blood pressure dropped suddenly and he was admitted to Breach Candy hospital where doctors declared him dead at 5 am. He was doing fine earlier and this was sudden.”

The Family’s Official Statement on Ram Mukherjee’s demise
“Ram Mukherjee, a respected filmmaker, a beloved father, and husband, is no more. He passed away on October 22 at 6 am due to natural causes. Close friends and family attended his quiet funeral at 2 pm this afternoon. Ram Mukherjee was one of the key associates of S Mukherjee and one of the founder members of Filmalaya Studios. He is known for directing films like Hum Hindustani and Leader starring the legend Dilip Kumar. He will be sorely missed by his wife Krishna Mukerji, daughter Rani Mukerji, son Raja Mukerji and the rest of the family,” said Rani Mukherjee’s spokesperson.

Ram Mukherjee’s cremation was held on Sunday afternoon at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle West. Rani, along with husband Aditya Chopra, was present at the last rites. Actors Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor and Ranveer Singh also came to pay their last respects.

Ram Mukherjee: The Man and his accomplishments
Ram Mukherjee worked in both Hindi and Bengali cinema. He was one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai. He was most known for helming films like Hum Hindustani (1960), which starred Sunil Dutt, Joy Mukherjee and Asha Parekh in lead roles. The Dilip Kumar-Vyjayanthimala starred Leader (1964) was another jewel crafted by him. Mukherjee also produced Rani’s debut Hindi film ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat’ in 1997. He also directed and produced the actor’s Bengali debut movie Biyer Phool (1996), which also starred Prosenjit Chatterjee.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mourned Mr. Mukherjee’s death. Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee tweeted: “Really sad to hear Ram Mukherjee passed away. I had an opportunity to work with him in Rakta Nadir Dhara, Raktalekha, Biyer Phool. RIP Ramda.”
Ram Mukherjee is survived by wife Krishna, daughter Rani, and son Raja. We have our condolences with the family.
