All About World Scouts Day Celebration 2018

RTIwala Explains: World Scout Day celebrations commemorate the birth anniversary of Robert Baden-Powell born in 1857 and also his wife Olave Baden-Powell born in 1889. World Scout Day, is celebrated by all the Scout associations and is celebrated on February 22.

What are a Scouting Movement and all about Scout Promise and Scout Oath?

Scouts are ahead of soldiers as they are the one who is set out of main force so as to gather information about the enemy’s position, strengths, and positions. They have to work as a spy agent and have lots of risks to pertain. The Scouting or the Scout Movement aims for the development of youngsters in terms of their physical, mental and spiritual strengths. They are trained as such like soldiers in order to play constructive roles in the society with a strong focus on the outdoors and survival skills. On Scout’s Day all the members of Scouting we re-affirm the Scout Promise.

Scout promise has been taken by all the scouts in order to live up to the ideals of the movement and their devotion towards Scout Law. During the twentieth century, the first half was encompassed by the three major groups for boys as Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Rover Scout but later on 1901, there were girls guides as well as Brownie Guide, Girl Guide and Girl Scout, Ranger Guide. The Scouting movement is one of several worldwide youth organizations. The Scout Promise made by the Baden-Powell, introduced in his original book on Boy Scouting, is as follows:

On my honor, I promise that—

1] I will do my duty to God and the King.

2] I will do my best to help others, whatever it costs me.

3] I know the scout law and will obey it.

How the Scout Day celebrated worldwide?

In integration to the Scout Day, there are different categories of Scout Day celebrated worldwide. They are meant to spread the enthusiasm among the citizens towards the spirit of scouting. Some of them are explained below:

Boy Scouts of America – This organization has designated the Scout day as the Sunday preceding 8 February or 8 February if it is a Sunday, as Scout Sunday, the following Friday as Scout Jumuah, and the following Saturday is designated as Scout Sabbath. The day is meant to mark the founding of the Scouts in the United States.

Girls Scouts of the USA–On this day an equivalent holiday is Girl Scout Day or Girl Scout Sabbath. It is celebrated in Girl Scout Week the week that includes 12th March the day the first Girl Scout troop was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia in 1912.

Africa Scout Day – Africa celebrates its Scout Day on 13th of March and it has become official as Africa Scout Day after the government has passed a resolution stating Scouting in Africa must be recognized on 13th of March.

Scout-Guide Week Canada–Canada celebrates the join event between two groups of both the Guides and the Scouts. They have a Scout-Guide week which is a Sunday-Sunday week in which 22 February falls but the first Sunday is not included.

World Scout Scarf Day–This is celebrated on August 1 and is meant to honor scout day by requesting former scouts to make their scout scarfs in public showing the “Spirit of Scouting”. The scarf symbolizes the strength of fulfilling the scout promise.

Scouts have been doing good deeds, learning survival skills and developing moral foundations for the society. Scout has a mission to leave the world as a bit better a place then we had found it.
