What’s all about Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas?
As per the gazette notification 19 November 2015 and on the personal recommendation of PM Modi, Government of India declared 26 Nov as the Constitution Day. Every year on 26 November, particularly the Schools and Colleges celebrate the Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas because on November 26, 1949, India had adopted its Constitution for the very first time.
How UGC is related and What all happens on this day…?
As per the media sources, Universities across the country have been asked to conduct various activities to celebrate the Constitution Day on November 26 by the University Grants Commission (UGC). In a November 23 circular to Vice-Chancellor(s) across India is sent by UGC secretary PK Thakur.
On this day all the Universities were asked to read out the preamble to the Constitution and the Fundamental Duties of the morning assembly. Not only this but there’ll be lectures, debate and presentation will be held in every educational institution on the importance of fundamental duties, and a list of them has to be put up on notice boards. November 26 was declared “Constitution day” or “Samvidhan Divas” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015.

- The GoI concluded the ‘Quami Ekta Week’ (National Integration Week), which is observed from November 19 to 25 in CBSE schools. Various programmes were held on each day of the week.
- November 19 was observed as “National Integration Day“, with seminars on secularism, anti-communalism and non-violence.
- November 21 was observed as Linguistics Harmony Day while November 25 was Conservation Day.
